Marine Hull underwriting is managed by John Dodson with Riqardo Miqueo and Fernando Arraspide as underwriters based in Latin America. The team has a combined 50 years of marine and marine underwriting experience in the United Kingdom and Latin America with a particular focus on commercial hulls and pleasure craft.
Our expertise lies in the Technical Underwriting of commercial hull and technological development based on our knowledge of the fleets that operate in Latin America and the Caribbean, the ship owners and operators. This, with the application of our underwriting guidelines and rates, general and specific coverages by each type of marine activity, deductibles, and the relative conditions of each business – allows us to realise a correct evaluation of the risks and results over a long period.
Our philosophy to work continually as a team with the ship owners, brokers, agents, insurers and reinsurers, allows us to obtain the best standards of service and conditions in the Local and International Markets.
Underwriting
MXB Underwriters bases its underwriting criteria on the correct research and evaluation of the information provided by the clients, for example:
- Experience in the operation of the vessels
- Navigational area
- Marine-Economic activity of the business
- Type of vessels and jobs performed
- Maintenance programmes
- Age of vessels
- Rotation of crew and captains
- Loss record (analysis of frequency and attritional losses)
- Evaluation of machinery and maintenance
- Classification Society of the vessel
- Financial review via banking creditors etc.
Inspections and Evaluations
In addition, the services of inspection and evaluations, allows us to elaborate on the recommendations to the ship owner, for the continued good functioning and maintenance of their vessels. To this end, it is important to work as a team on the elaboration of the information for the correct evaluation and application of the appropriate conditions.
